Dear Seeker - What's your interest in John? Are you just doing a welfare check to see how he's doing these days? Or are you evaluating a potential romantic partner? Whatever the case, John is a self-centered and deeply conflicted individual, and there's not a lot you can do to fix that.
John's habits are marked by the Wheel of Fortune, which shows that his greatest desire is self interest and self concern. And granted, there's nothing necessarily wrong with valuing oneself above others - that's life, after all - but in this reading, the Wheel is the boss of both of the other cards present, and both of the other cards present are extreme opposites.
John wants to show that he can be responsible and trusted to handle big things, but at the same time, his needs show that he requires a healthy sense of confidence and self esteem. In other words, John's leading himself around by the tail: he wants to improve his own standing through the praise and recognition of others (who are so-damn-thankful for the effort he contributes), but for the lasting confidence he really needs he has to learn how to be happy with himself. Or in other words, judge himself according to his own standards.
