Hello, Anonymous Giraffe, and thank-you for trusting me to advise you on this situation. As I do with so many of the questions I receive, I'm not providing a simple answer because the appropriate explanation is more complex. First, what do you think is really the cause for your unhappiness? I'm thinking you're feeling a sense of cabin fever and have a lot of trouble breaking out of your immediate circles. Any truth to that?
As much as you might be frustrated by work, money, or anything else where you presently live, the thing you think you'll find living somewhere else is the very thing you won't find anywhere else: a nostalgic return to past relationship. Why are you dwelling on past relationships? Are you dissatisfied with your present relationships?
The reason I ask about your present relationships is because - if that's the case - a move will not bring you any happiness. The very satisfaction and pleasure you think you'll find, and the satisfaction of authority over your own life, will in fact not be achieved. You'll find that the "juicy" life you'd like to have isn't forthcoming, and on top of that your opportunities for work and change will also be diminished. I encourage you to answer the other questions I suggested before you make any major decisions.
