Would you rather:
Know for sure that you'd always be happy at least 8 hours of every day, or
Know for sure that you'd always be sad at least 8 hours of the day but also be filthy rich?
Tough question! There's a lot to be said for personal satisfaction stemming from material wealth, but then, happiness is relative. Yes, my life would be a lot easier if I could just throw money at problems to make them go away, but then, what happens when no amount of money can buy love? And so on. I see time and again that regardless of how well-off people are (or I think they are), they still have the same kinds of problems that everybody else has, and in many ways, cope with them just as badly.
I'm a self-reliant kind of person, so I would rather know that I can depend on myself. After all, as much as other people have the ability to bring me happiness, why would I want to be so critically dependent on others? As silly as that sounds, I think anybody would be surprised at the frequency of co-dependent relationships, and that's something I want to avoid.
