Are you ready for some big news? Starting in March, Jen and I are eliminating the weekend workshop format for teaching Reiki healing and are starting a system of weekly classes and monthly circles so that students can learn holistic medicine in an easy classroom setting.
I wish this was something we had thought to start a long time ago, because it's actually cheaper for the student to become a Reiki healer and easier to teach for the instructor. Ultimately, our goal is not to certify what a student has read or heard in a lecture, but what the student has done under our instruction, so we're implementing minimum hours of training to achieve these goals. We'll be offering private members-only circles, monthly public practitioners-only circles, monthly healing clinics open to the public, and free monthly lectures.
The beauty of this format is that students who only want to practice for the pleasure of the activity itself aren't locked into the same study-track as students who want to practice as spiritual healers in a commercial, clinical, or pastoral setting. Students who want to achieve professional recognition will study under a 30-hour learning block. For example, every 30 hours of instruction a student logs counts toward the next step, so level 1 is one 30-hour block; level 2 is another 30-hour block; and level 3 is another 30-hour block (for 30, 60, and 90 hours, respectively.) There's some additional take-home studies for students, but for the most part it's all in-person work.
10 of the 30 hours must be completed through participation at one of the classes or events I just mentioned; 10 of the 30 hours must be completed in yoga classes; and the remaining 10 may be any combination of the two. Jen and I believe that, although this format is slower than the weekend course, it will be more inviting for casual students, create more competent practitioners, and build up the healing community.
Perhaps the greatest reason I'm so excited to move to this teaching format is that this type of highly-accessible, micro-pay format isn't available anywhere else in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario: we are now the only healing school offering reiki meditation and chakra healing on a walk-in basis with regularly scheduled classes. The format that we've used in the past - and the format currently used by all other lightworking and healing teachers in town - is the weekend crash-course. This format has worked well in the past, and continues to work well in the present, but truth told is that it's expensive and offers no long-term support to practitioners after they've been presented with the appropriate lessons.
So let's talk about the price. Before, we were the least expensive place in town to receive this training, and our prices still only started at $100 per day. Other teachers in town charge much more than that, and unlike us, do not schedule around the student. The accepted habit has been to schedule a few weekend courses throughout the year, charge a high fee to participate, and offer no community networking or support after it had concluded - "The traveling Reiki master strikes again!" This practice has resulted in a fractured network of lonely practitioners who aren't even aware of how many other practitioners are in their town - or even right next door!
Lightworking and healing for the sake of bettering oneself is terrific - that's the very reason that I myself got started in the practice - but it becomes a lonely solitude when done in isolation. This is why our classes include group work and our studio offers multiple free events every month for lightworkers, healers, and Reiki practitioners of every tradition: so that we can come together in a non-sectarian setting to share healing amongst ourselves and enjoy the social activity of group work.
So check out our schedule! You'll see our new Lightworking & Healing classes on Mondays at 7pm and Fridays at 6.30pm, as well as three new monthly events that take place on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Saturday afternoons of every month. And the best part of all this? These Lightworking & Healing classes are already included in your existing monthly membership, and vice versa: come for the yoga and stay for the lightworking, or come for the lightworking and stay for the yoga - either way, you're going to find a happy and peaceful Yoga & Healing School where you can release your stress and revive your energy.
