What style of Reiki do we teach? That's a cryptic question. When I was first trained, I was told -as I'm sure my teacher was told, and his before him- that I was learning traditional Usui reiki. My master's certificate says that I'm trained in Usui Reiki. I have since spent much time furthering my studies, and found that the style I was taught -and in fact, nearly all styles in the West- is an eclectic one. For a time, I was bent on finding the Usui style; and studied his original handbook. Then I spent time adapting reiki, making it my own.
The truth is: reiki literally translates to 'universal life energy'; and just as we are all unique creatures of the universe, we all have a unique perception of, and way of channeling the energy. Usui created a system that suited the philosophy and lifestyle of Japanese monk. One of his students -Dr. Hayashi- created a different system that suited the methodology of a physician; and did so with Usui's blessing. We all must find our own unique way of channeling reiki; to do so, is to be a master. This is what we teach.
To be a little more specific, your first level will cover traditional Usui philosophy -most importantly, how to meditate and become a clear channel- and history; so that you understand the roots of the practice. In level two, we teach you the various applications of the energy: the symbols and their uses, healing at a distance, and several different methodologies for conducting reiki sessions with clients (ie. chakras, meridians, classic anatomy etc). Your third or master level teaches you several methods of passing attunements on to others. Those with their master level may run reiki courses, but we do not specifically teach our students how to run such courses. Teaching is a skill on it's own, and some of our graduates already teach in other fields and feel comfortable applying that skill to reiki courses, while others require additional study. Our curriculum is copyrighted, but graduates may purchases the material and right to use it if they wish.
You will choose which style works best for you. Our goal is to make that choice an informed one, rather than a blind following of previous teaching. Above all else, we teach you to become a clear channel, and do no harm to those you touch.
