Intra-office bickering, eh? Nothing much to be done about that - you can just assume that bickering and arguments are a constant in any large corporate environment - but as far as this situation goes, I see a conflict of pride and ego. Essentially, everybody wants to be right, and nobody wants to be wrong. Is it a surprise? I'm betting not.
As far as your situation goes, though, I encourage you to focus on your own business. As much as is reasonably possible in a bureaucracy, keep your attention on what you can control. Take pleasure from what you enjoy, and anything that doesn't affect you should be put aside.
Also, there's a schedule shake-up coming. If people are fighting, then it's because they've been listening to the rumors and are pre-emptively puffing their chests. This shake-up won't affect you, so pay no mind to the hot air filling up the office hallways.
