End Hunger, or
End Hatred?
What an agonizing question. Supposing that either were possible (and permanent), I would choose to end hatred, but practically speaking, I don't think either one is possible even with a genie's wish. Supposing I ended hatred, this wouldn't necessarily do anything to fix class inequality and could conceivably lead to more intimate unions, thus more pregnancies, thus more births, and thus the need to produce more food (putting us back right where we started.)
And suppose I ended hunger, what does that necessarily do to fix hatred? Nothing, really. Some stress and tension will be resolved because people and nations won't have to compete against each other for scarce resources, but putting food in mouths doesn't do anything to fix irrational racist, sexist, ageist, ableist, classist, and other attitudes.
So like I said at the start, even with a genie's wish to get things started, day to day life is a dynamic system, not a static presentation, and a single wish isn't nearly enough to solve either hatred or hunger because the inherent problem is the human element. And of course, removing the human element from the equation isn't really an option, is it?
